COVID -19 – How It Affecting Medical Travel Restrictions (Country wise)

The WHO has declared COVID -19 a pandemic. In the presence of the COVID -19 crisis, the WHO has directed all nations to take adequate care to avoid spreading and minimize the loss of human life. In this article, we will learn, how COVID -19 Medical Travel Restrictions is affecting traveling across the countries. 

Earlier COVID -19 epicenter was Wuhan, a big commercial city in China. But now, it has shifted to entire Europe, Asia, and America, or we can say it has gripped all continents. It is not country-specific but become a global calamity now.

In the wake of COVID -19, the entire European Union (EU) has decided to shut off schools, colleges, spas, bars, and other offices. It has affected all the 27 states of the European Union. Some countries apart from Europe have started to take extra measures to minimize the spreading of the COVID -19 virus and learn from the mistake of countries like Italy and Iran.

This includes shutting down the offices, restaurants, schools, universities, and government offices as well.  But what is more significant is the banning of fresh travel from every country around the world. For example, the USA has declared a national emergency due to COVID -19.

COVID -19 Medical Travel Restrictions country-wise.

Here are some of the countries and the travel bans imposed by them – 

  • Canada- Canada has shut down its borders for international tourists apart from America. The citizens of the USA can still visit the country. It has advised all its citizens to avoid unnecessary travel within and outside the country. However, Canadian nationals from abroad can still return to the country but have to undergo 14 days quarantine period. This quarantine period of 14 days applies to US citizens as well.
  • Colombia – Columbia has also taken preventive measures in wake of the COVID -19. It has shut down its borders for every foreign national and only Colombian nationals can come back to the country. However, it has made the self-isolation of 14 days a norm for those coming from outside.
  • European Union – In the aftermath of COVID -19 the EU levied an unprecedented 30-day travel ban on foreigners. The European Commission has also banned all non-essential travel through the Schengen free-travel zone in Europe.  The Schengen region covers 22 of the 27 member states of the EU, as well as Iceland, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and Norway. The United Kingdom has been asked to close its borders but has not done it yet.  The UK has advised citizens only to avoid 30 days of non-essential travel abroad.
  • Hong Kong – A red travel warning has been released advising people to change their plans and stop unessential travel to Britain, Ireland, and the US. The government has also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel beyond the region of Hong Kong.
  • Indonesia – After imposing a ban on tourists from South Korea and China, it has also placed a ban on travelers from 7 European countries plus Iran. If anyone from other than these countries wants to visit Indonesia, they have to carry proof of their sound medical health and have to apply for a visa from the Indonesian mission present in other countries.
  • India- The entry of all passengers from the European Union, the European Free Trade Agreement, Turkey, and the United Kingdom was forbidden. India has worked quickly to stop any sort of travel for any other citizens except Indians who wish to return home.  India has banned all flights in and out of India as of now. For local people, most cities are imposing lockdown.
  • Iran – In Iran, apart from the travel ban, the revolutionary guards, have cleaned the streets and public places of the people.
  • Jordan – Jordan has also banned flights in and out of the country in wake of the COVID -19 outbreak.
  • Kuwait – In wake of the COVID -19, Kuwait has canceled all international flights from the country.
  • Malaysia – Malaysia is in a lockdown situation. It has barred all the foreign tourists to come to the country. Also, the Malaysian nationals returning to the country will have to go under self-quarantine for 14 days.
  • New Zealand – New Zealand has asked all its citizens and the citizens from other countries coming to New Zealand should undergo quarantine for 14 days.
  • Norway – Anyone from outside the Nordic countries who comes to Norway must be quarantined at home for two weeks after their arrival.
  • Philippines – Philippines has sealed off its capital Manila where COVID -19 outbreak is worst. Other states of the country have also been in partial lockdown mode.
  • Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia has banned all international flights coming to and from the country.
  • Spain – A 15-day state of emergency restricts human and vehicle movement. The central government of Madrid has forced all the pubs, restaurants, cafés, cinemas, and gyms. There is a nationwide lockout because people are prohibited to leave their homes unless they go to work or buy vital supplies and medications.
  • UAE – Has asked all the residents and people not to fly. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has implemented screenings of passengers passing through its airports, border crossings, and ports from around the world to Dubai. DHA allows all travelers returning to the UAE from one of the top 10 countries recording local COVID-19 transmission to be subjected to 14 days of domestic isolation. The countries affected are China, Italy, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, France, and Germany. Dubai airports introduce stringent steps for all passengers arriving at Dubai airports and twice screening for passengers from countries with high infection rates.
  • The USA – The State Department has urged all U.S. citizens to avoid traveling abroad despite having introduced the UK and Ireland to the European travel ban. In general, the US does not issue advisories or travel restrictions within the country. Cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in many nations, however, and some places experience the spread of the disease through a population. It has now requested all people to avoid journeys that are not necessary.
  • Uzbekistan – Uzbekistan has closed all borders and proclaimed a state of emergency, banning all but returning people from entering Kazakhstan. This has also prohibited all local departures in the wake of the – COVID -19 crisis.
  • Vietnam – All European, ASEAN, and U.S. passengers must be screened and undergo mandatory quarantine. There are no new Visas given. Travel from Europe is prohibited.

COVID -19 Medical Travel Restrictions are proof of the mounting crisis of the COVID -19 outbreak. One must ensure to follow these travel guidelines while traveling to any country.
