Surrogacy Process- step-by-step

Matching Process

Once your detail is collected, the process of matching with Intended Parents start. Looking at the specific requirement by parents and physical attributes, the surrogate can be shortlisted for a surrogacy program. Your availability and menses dates are confirmed. Since surrogacy is not anonymous in India, so Intended Parents can meet surrogate, if needed.

Once you are selected for the program, the medical preparation will start. You will undergo a fertility evaluation to verify the capacity of your fertility and uterus lining. Fertility expert will do a pelvic scan to rule out the possibility of cyst or fluid in the uterus to examine the thickness of endometrium lining. This consists of a physical examination and pelvic ultrasound and more extensive physical exam; blood tests will also be performed. The process of surrogacy and associated risk or side effects will be discussed with you.

Once your menses start, you will be asked to come to IVF Clinic for evaluation and for uterus lining preparation.

Uterus Lining Preparation

You need to take oral meds/ inject-able which will help in building the desired thickness of endometrium layer before embryos transfer. It is advised to have a thickness of 10 mm at the time of embryo transfer. You will be asked to visit clinic 3-4 times to review the thickness. Generally, the embryos transfer is done on around Day 18 to 21 of your menses.

Embryos Transfer

This process of embryos transfer is relatively easy and no anesthesia is needed. Generally, a catheter is used to transfer the embryos to uterus, trans-vaginally, and the whole process can take up to 15 to 20 minutes. It is a day procedure and you can go home after 1-2 hours rest in the clinic and after that, you can go home and take rest for a day. You will be prescribed few oral and injectable meds and needed to take bed rest for 2-3 days. After this, you can resume your day-to-day activity but need to avoid any strenuous activity. You will be asked to come after 2 weeks for BHCG Blood test to confirm pregnancy.
